We understand what it is like to be a beginner and understand that sometimes the process of starting yoga can seem overwhelming or awkward. At Sankalpa Yoga Center we celebrate the courage it takes to begin practicing yoga and our community is here to support you. We are honored for the opportunity to share yoga with you and will guide you to a strong foundation in your practice that you can rely on.

  • Please be on time. As a courtesy to the teachers and other students, please arrive early enough to settle in without rushing.

  • Turn your mobile phones off or to vibrate mode. Do not bring mobiles into the practice room.

  • We also strongly advise against wearing strong perfume.

  • The yoga room is intended to be a quiet zone. Please refrain from any loud talking in the yoga room. Many students use the time before class to quiet and center themselves as they prepare for class.

  • Leaving the room during class should be limited to emergencies.

  • If you are new to yoga, we encourage you to take our Hatha Yoga 1 classes which will move more slowly and focus on the fundamentals of flow yoga.

  • Start slow and take as many rests as you need during class.

  • During the aerial practice remove all jewellery to avoid damaging the hammock.

  • For the best results, we recommend practicing at least 2-3 times per week minimum to get the consistent benefits that a Sankalpa Yoga practice can offer you.

  • You can bring your own yoga mat or you are welcome to use one of our mats.

  • We have locker rooms available for you to use.

  • Dress in clothing that allows you to move freely and be comfortable.

  • Please avoid eating any large meals at least 2 hours before you plan to take a yoga class.

  • Bring an open mind.

  • Relax and have fun! Let go of your instincts and behaviors. This is not a race or a competition. It's just yoga, and it's just 90 minutes out of your entire day, so let your heart smile and enjoy it!
